Berlin Airports responds to Lufthansa’s announcement that it will be increasing services to the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport
Berlin Airports welcomes today’s announcement by the Executive Director Passenger Airlines at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Carsten Spohr, that Lufthansa intends to offer more services to Berlin once the new airport Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt opens.
Klaus Wowereit, Governing Mayor of Berlin and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Berlin Airports, said: “Lufthansa’s commitment to increasing its activities in Berlin is an important step towards ensuring that Berlin is optimally linked to the rest of the world. Every single additional aircraft that is based here means new jobs. It is already clear that Willy Brandt Airport is fast becoming a key employment driver for the entire region.”
Berlin Airports’ Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz: “The Lufthansa Crane flies high and proud over Germany’s capital city. The expansion of Lufthansa’s European services from Berlin is an important signal in the run-up to the opening of the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt in June 2012. By basing and deploying new aircraft here, Lufthansa is building a solid foundation which will enable the airline to add more destinations in the medium term, including new intercontinental services. It is clear that Lufthansa, which will be based on the main pier of the new airport, is setting a strong course for growth in the city the airline was founded in.”
