Strong passenger growth continues at Schönefeld and Tegel Airports
Strong passenger growth continues at Schönefeld and Tegel Airports: Yao Yao Brandenburg is the 28 millionth passenger in Berlin this year. Accompanied by her husband and daughter, the 34-year old pianist checked in for Norwegian flight D8 2873 to London Gatwick. To celebrate this occasion, Norwegian presented Yao Yao Brandenburg with a return flight for two in the Norwegian route network departing Berlin. Dr Karsten Mühlenfeld, CEO Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “We are delighted to have reached the 28 million record. Never before have we had as many passengers at the aviation site Berlin-Brandenburg as we see today. For the thirteenth time in succession, we grew faster than the average rate on the market, posting passenger growth of more than five per cent.” Thomas Ramdahl, Chief Commercial Officer Norwegian: “Congratulations to both Berlin Airports! We very much look forward to welcoming the 28 millionth passenger on board. Norwegian is delighted about the good co-operation with Schönefeld Airport and with the great success at having flown several million passengers to and from Schönefeld since 2004 – this success is good for both the tourism sector and the economy. We offer approx. 80,000 seats a week between Berlin and Spain, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Great Britain, and we see the great interest shown by our German passengers. We look forward to continued collaboration and the opportunity to continue welcoming passengers on board our more environmentally-friendly aircraft with free WiFi.” Norwegian was established in 2002 and has been departing from Schönefeld since March 2004. The current winter flight plan sees the airline serving ten destinations from Berlin: Barcelona, Bergen, Copenhagen, London Gatwick, Las Palmas, Oslo, Stavanger, Stockholm (Arlanda), Tenerife and Trondheim. 607,241 passengers used the airline between January and October 2015, accounting for more than 40 per cent growth over the same period last year. Norwegian is the fifth-largest airline in Berlin.
