Schönefeld site grows by more than 40 per cent

Passenger figures have continued to rise in Berlin: since the beginning of the year, 12.3 million passengers have departed from Schönefeld and Tegel. For the very first time, Schönefeld recorded over a million passengers within a single month. The Traffic Report for May 2016 details figures on passengers, aircraft movements and air cargo for that month as well as the total since the beginning of the year, always with comparisons to the same period of the previous years.

Traffic figures from January to May 2016

  • Passengers: 12,287,646 passengers passed through Schönefeld and Tegel Airports between January and May 2016, equivalent to growth of 11.2% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. 4,307,215 passengers were handled at Schönefeld Airport, 41.2% more than in the comparable period of 2015. 7,980,431 passengers were handled at Tegel, 0.3% fewer than in the same period of the previous year.
  • Aircraft movements: The number of aircraft movements at Schönefeld and Tegel between January and May 2016 rose to a total of 111,641 take-offs and landings, an increase by 10% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. The number of aircraft movements at Schönefeld rose to 37,301, representing an increase of 30%. At Tegel, there were 74,340 take-offs and landings, a 2.1% increase over the previous year.
  • Air cargo: A total of 17,369 tonnes of air cargo were registered between January and May 2016, representing a 2.7% decrease over the same period of the previous year. At Schönefeld, 3,252 tonnes (+1%) of air cargo were handled during the first five months while 14,118 tonnes (-3.5%) were handled at Tegel.

  • Passengers: In May 2016, 2,874,576 passengers took off and landed at Schönefeld and Tegel Airports, equivalent to growth of 9.9% in comparison with May 2015. Schönefeld registered 1,012,191 passengers (+43%) in May; the comparable figure for Tegel was 1,862,385 passengers (-2.4%).
  • Aircraft movements: The number of aircraft movements at Schönefeld and Tegel Airports in May rose to a total of 24,829 take-offs and landings, an increase of 8.6% over the same period of the previous year. The number of aircraft movements at Schönefeld rose to 8,617 (+34.3%). At Tegel, 16,212 aircraft movements (-1.4%) were registered in May.
  • Air cargo: In May 2016, 3,538 tonnes of air cargo were registered at the airports in Schönefeld and Tegel, a plus of 6% in comparison with May 2015. 775 tonnes of air cargo were handled at Schönefeld Airport, 19.7% more than in May 2015, while 2,763 tonnes of air cargo were registered at Tegel Airport (+2.8%).
