Almost three million passengers during the holiday month of August:

The first eight months of 2016 have seen almost 21.3 million passengers fly from Schönefeld and Tegel; 11.4 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. The number of passengers at Schönefeld Airport has risen by 40.1 per cent.

Airport CEO Karsten Mühlenfeld: ‘We are delighted with the continuing strong growth in passenger numbers at Schönefeld Airport. Between January and August, more than 7.3 million passengers took off and landed in SXF. In order to meet this growth, we are expanding airport capacity. Before the year is out, Arrivals Terminal D2 will go into operation.’

This traffic report contains figures relating to passengers, flight movements and air freight for August 2016 as well as combined figures for the year from the beginning of January compared with the previous year’s figures.

Traffic figures for January to August 2016

• Passengers: A total of 21,294,960 passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel between January and August; 11.4 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. 7,359,209 passengers took off and landed in Schönefeld; 40.1 per cent more than in the same period in 2015. 13,935,751 passengers flew from Tegel; more than 0.5 per cent more than in the same period the previous year.
• Flight movements: The total number of flight movements between January and August 2016 in Schönefeld and Tegel combined was up 9.0 per cent on the year at 185,145 take-offs and landings. The number of flight movements in Schönefeld rose to 61,757 (+29.1 per cent), while Tegel recorded 123,388 take-offs and landings (+1.2 per cent).
• Air freight: A total of 29,481 tonnes of air freight were recorded between January and August 2016; 4.7 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. During the first eight months of the year, 5,715 tonnes of air freight (+9.0 per cent) were handled in Schönefeld and 23,766 tonnes (+3.7 per cent) in Tegel.

• Passengers: In August 2016, 2,982,044 passengers took off and landed at the Berlin airports Schönefeld and Tegel (+10.9 per cent): 1,049,046 passengers (+42.7 per cent) flew from Schönefeld and 1,932,998 passengers (–1.1 per cent) from Tegel.
• Flight movements: The total number of flight movements at the airports Schönefeld and Tegel in August 2016 rose by 8.8 per cent on the year to 23,861 take-offs and landings. The number of flight movements in Schönefeld increased to 7,889 (+34.2 per cent), while the number of flight movements in Tegel dropped to 15,972 (–0.6 per cent).
• Air freight: Schönefeld and Tegel Airport recorded 4,219 tonnes of air freight in August 2016; 18.7 per cent more than in August 2015. Air freight in Schönefeld reached 771 tonnes (+34.7 per cent), while almost 3,448 tonnes (+15.6 per cent) of air freight were recorded in Tegel.
