Almost twelve million passengers travelled via BER in the first half of the year
New freight record with 3,961 tonnes
Passenger numbers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport continued to rise in the first half of 2024. From January to June 2024, 11.8 million passengers flew to and from BER. This is twelve per cent more than in the same period last year. The number of aircraft movements rose by 11.7 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year to around 87,000 take-offs and landings.
Around 2.34 million passengers traveled through BER in June 2024. According to the preliminary figures of the traffic report, this corresponds to an increase of 11.6 per cent compared to June 2023 with around 2.1 million passengers. The busiest day was June 14 with 89,580 passengers. In June of the pre-corona year 2019, the two airports Tegel and Schönefeld welcomed around 3.26 million passengers. This corresponds to a decrease of 28.3 per cent in June 2024 compared to June 2019.
BER recorded a total of 17,980 take-offs and landings in June 2024. This represents a 10.7 per cent increase in the number of aircraft movements in June 2024 compared to the same month last year with 16,243. In June 2019, there were 25,707 flight movements at Tegel and Schönefeld.
In June 2024, a total of around 3,961 tonnes of air freight were handled at BER. This is a new record in freight and corresponds to an increase of 47.2 per cent compared to June 2023 (with 2,690 tonnes). The cargo handled corresponds to an increase of 33.8 per cent compared to the same month in the pre-corona year 2019 (with 2,960 tonnes).
