California connections increase from Tampa International Airport

Getting to California is about to get a little bit easier.

On Nov. 21, Alaska Airlines plans to launch new nonstop flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco, doubling the service to both these markets and introducing airline competition to SFO for the first time.

The new routes augment Delta Air Lines nonstop service to LAX, and United Airline's service to SFO, which is scheduled to resume Nov. 4. It means more options from Tampa to California for business or pleasure.

In 2017, Tampa International Airport and passengers were delighted at the addition of SFO, a market which was previously one of the largest unserved markets. This route played a crucial role in connecting Tampa to West Coast cities and also expanding connections across the Western U.S., Asia and the Pacific.

Four nonstop flights on three different airlines to California speaks to the strength of the Tampa market.

“Since first entering the Tampa market in 2014 from Seattle, we’ve seen consistent growth in demand and see a similar opportunity with service from San Francisco and Los Angeles”, said Brett Catlin, Alaska's Managing Director of Capacity Planning and Alliances, “In the current climate, guests are looking for nonstop access to more outdoor, socially distant locales, and the pristine beaches of the Gulf Coast offer a compelling option for West Coast flyers.”

For Tampa travelers, it means more options and competitive prices.

"The West Coast is going to see more traffic from TPA than ever before," said Chris Minner, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications at TPA. "Los Angeles and San Francisco are always in high demand for both business and leisure travelers. We're excited to have even more options to get across the country quickly and easily."

Alaska's service to SFO is slated to fly twice a week while the LAX service is daily.
