Zagreb Airport selects winner of design competition for new Passenger Terminal
Croatian based architects Branko Kincl, Velimir Neidhardt and Jure Radic have been awarded first place in the competition for the design of Zagreb Airport’s new passenger terminal.
The Croatian architects' design was chosen by an international panel of judges including Bosko Matkovic, Director General of Zagreb Airport and was selected ahead of submissions from Japanese architects, Shigeru Ban and Taro Okabe and British architect Sir Norman Foster, who designed Terminal Four at Madrid, Barajas.
The design for the new terminal was inspired by Zagreb's surroundings with the fluid shape of the terminal designed to mirror the outline of the city's mountains.
Construction of the new passenger terminal will commence next year and will be completed in 2012. The new terminal is required to accommodate increasing passenger numbers at Zagreb Airport. In 2007 Zagreb Airport handled just under 2m passengers and growth for 2008 suggests that this figure will be exceeded. More information:http://www.d-a-z.hr/?sec=natjecajirezultat&id=37
