Zurich Airport recognised as third-best airport worldwide
After being named best airport in Europe on ten consecutive occasions, Zurich Airport was voted the third-best airport worldwide at the renowned World Travel Awards.
The World Travel Award was presented for the 20th time. It is considered to be the "Oscar" of the travel industry and is awarded on the basis of an online vote held among travel agencies and passengers. Singapore Changi Airport, ranked number 1 on several occasions, won again this year, followed by Dubai. Zurich Airport made it into the top three for the second time since 2011.
16 airports were nominated for the World Travel Award in the World's Leading Airport 2013 category: Abu Dhabi International Airport, Auckland International Airport, Beijing Capital Airport, Cancun International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (Malediven), Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport, Madrid Barajas International Airport, O.R. Tambo International Airport (South Africa), O'Hare International Airport (USA), Sangster International Airport (Jamaica), Singapore Changi Airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (Mauritius), Sydney Airport and Wellington International Airport.
The World Travel Award was presented in Doha, Qatar, on 30 November 2013. Outstanding service providers in the travel and tourism sector have been competing for the World Travel Award since 1993. The high-profile contest is advertised internationally, and the prizes awarded by London-based media house World Travel Awards Ltd. (www.worldtravelawards.com).
