Checking in in the new Terminal 2
On 28 October 2015, the northern check-in hall 2 will also come on stream. With more space and a better overview, it can now accommodate a total of 104 counters.
On 28 October 2015, another milestone will be reached in the refurbishment of Terminal 2 when the new check-in counters in the northern section are put into operation. At the same time, the temporary check-in row 7 one floor down will close. Passengers and visitors are already entering Terminal 2 through the refurbished walkway and from there take the new ascending travelators to the check-in hall or the escalators to Arrival 2.
The renovation gives the building an operational, visual and commercial upgrade. An open ceiling design creates a well-lit, spacious area and the new counter arrangement provides capacity for 16 more counters, bringing the total to 104 check-in counters. The improvements to the infrastructure not only enhance the visual appearance; they also improve the overview, thereby making the facility much more passenger-friendly.
The opening will also bring a change of location for those airlines which, during the renovation work, were housed one floor down in the temporary row 7. They will now move back to the floor above. Air Berlin passengers will also check in in Terminal 2; at the end of October, the airline will move from check-in 3 to the new check-in 2.
From 1975 onwards, Terminal 2 was an integral part of regular flight operations for over three decades. In 2010, the initial construction work began on the “Terminal 2 Upgrade” project. The project as a whole is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2016.
