Porto Airport Reaches 15 Million Passengers
• Absolute airport record: 15 million passengers in one year • Recovery in passenger traffic of over 16% compared to 2019 (prepandemic) • 20% growth compared to 2022, one of the highest in Europe
ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal | VINCI Airports continue working on their commitment to the northern region, boosting the increase in air connectivity at Porto airport, which is essential for the development and sustainability of regional and national tourism and economic activity. This work translates into growth, which today was symbolically reflected in the reception of the 15 million passengers, who travelled on Turkish Airlines from Istanbul and landed at Porto airport this afternoon.
The same day, Porto airport reached another record, when the TAP Air Portugal flight from New York was the 100,000th passenger to land at Porto airport this morning, also setting a new record for landings and take-offs in a single year.
Porto airport continues to successfully diversify its direct connections to the main markets in Europe and to significantly increase traffic on direct intercontinental connections, which increased by 51% in terms of passenger numbers compared to the previous year.
Long-haul flights have been confirmed for next year, particularly to North America, including Boston, New York and Toronto with Azores Airlines.
With this active development of connectivity, to which the collaboration and work in close partnership with our partners in the regional and national tourism entities has greatly contributed, ANA | VINCI Airports achieved a strong recovery in traffic at Porto airport, which served more than 12.6 million passengers in 2022, representing an increase of 116.3 % compared to 2021. It should be noted that the previous record of 13 million passengers was achieved in 2019.
Porto is connected to more than 106 direct destinations via 30 airlines. This year, we welcomed 7 more companies and 17 new routes, the result of continuous work by our teams.
ANA|VINCI Airports' ambitious targets for decarbonising the aviation sector are also a priority, with concrete actions and a lot of work with all partners and entities, leading to international recognition, such as the award of Airport Carbon Accreditation from ACI (Airport Council International) at level 4+.
The continuous investment and consolidation of ANA| VINCI Airports' service quality strategy is reflected in passenger satisfaction and consequently in awards such as the one it received in March this year. Based on passenger surveys: Porto airport was recognised as the best in Europe in the 5-15 million passenger category in terms of service quality - ASQ (Airport Service Quality) - by ACI (Airport Council International).
