ANA invests 50 million in structural reinforcement of Porto Airport runway
ANA Aeroportos de Portugal has signed a contract with Acciona for the structural strengthening of the runway at Porto Airport, worth 50 million euros. This intervention is aimed at developing Porto Airport, an investment in quality, safety and environmental performance, making it possible to accommodate future traffic growth.
The work will begin on 31 July and will last for 19 months. All the work will be carried out between 00:00 and 06:00, Monday to Saturday, to minimize the impact on airport operations. In addition, it will be necessary to close the runway on 10 September to carry out more complex work.
With this investment, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal will reinforce the operational conditions at Porto Airport, and this is the largest intervention carried out on the runway of this infrastructure.
The intervention will be carried out on the runway and adjacent areas, namely:
- Structural reinforcement of the runway pavement;
- Adjusting the longitudinal and horizontal profiles of the runway;
- Replacement of the approach light system;
- Adjusting the profiles of the runway safety lanes;
- Replacement of the runway lighting system with LEDs;
- Replacement of the entire network of collectors installed in the intervention area;
- Installation of a precision lighting system on runway 35 to enable operations in low visibility.
For Thierry Ligonnière, CEO of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, this "is a significant structural investment that will contribute to the development of Porto Airport and ensure that it continues to be one of the best airports in Europe, according to the opinions of passengers".
"This is yet another investment we are making in portuguese airports, which demonstrates the commitment of the ANA and VINCI Airports teams to promoting air connectivity in the country and regions and the safety of operations," emphasizes ANA's CEO.
Porto Airport has been honored by passengers in recent years for its quality of service and recently received a 4-star airport rating from Skytrax.
