Qatar Airways investing in Göteborg Landvetter with new direct route to Doha

The new non-stop service also means great cargo potential for export companies in western Sweden.

Each year, about 230,000 people fly from Gothenburg to different destinations in Asia. Beginning in December, people in western Sweden will be able to conveniently fly non-stop to Doha and continue on to one of the carrier's 150 destinations. For the many global companies in western Sweden, the new direct route provides a faster journey overall to business partners in Asia and Africa. For exporting companies in western Sweden, it means great potential to fly more cargo volume between Gothenburg and Asia.

"Sweden is the largest economy in Scandinavia and at the moment it is also the strongest in Europe. New direct routes is an important contributing factor as they improve connectivity to markets that are crucial to the Swedish business community, the visiting industry and attract capital and knowledge to the region. This direct route is the result of successful cooperation, where we, together with the region, have shown Qatar Airways the potential in the Western Swedish market. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that Swedavia and western Sweden jointly welcome this large Middle East airline to Göteborg Landvetter," said Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO at Swedavia.

From Göteborg Landvetter, Doha in the Persian Gulf is reached in seven hours, for a long weekend of experiences or as a stop over travelling onwards. The business community and visitor industry in the western Swedish region together confirm this milestone for Göteborg Landvetter as Qatar Airways invests in this new direct route.

"The establishment of a new direct route to Doha is very good news for colleagues, suppliers and customers as well as for cargo from Göteborg Landvetter. Now it will be far smoother for global companies in western Sweden to get to the Middle East and Asia through the 150 destinations that are reached via Qatar Airways' network," said Johan Trouvé, CEO of the West Sweden Chamber of Commerce.

"The route is a long-desired addition that provides better access to Gothenburg as a destination. It creates favourable conditions as we compete for meetings and events and presents new opportunities for visitors from new markets to discover Gothenburg. We know that our lifestyle, our nature with its archipelago and our food are good reasons to travel here. People from western Sweden now also have better air links to many new exciting destinations via Doha," said Camilla Nyman, CEO of Göteborg & Co.

The non stop service will be launched on December 12, 2018, with five weekly departures from Göteborg Landvetter to Doha. The aircraft model is a Boeing 787 with seating for 254 passengers.
