Summer Routes Ensured Growth at Aalborg Airport
April 2024 kicked off the summer holiday traffic from Aalborg Airport to destinations such as Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, Naples, and the brand-new direct route to Girona. With a 12 percent increase in international traffic and good travel activity in domestic traffic, there was an overall growth of 5.4 percent compared to April 2023.
In total, there were 111,178 passengers to and from Aalborg Airport in April 2024 compared to 105,472 last year. This was a 5.4 percent increase, which gives positive expectations for the summer schedule - both for the many international routes and this year's large charter program, which starts in the first weeks of May to destinations including Gazipasa, Cyprus, and the popular Greek islands.
Boost in holiday traffic in the summer schedule
The desire to travel is evident at Aalborg Airport, where in April 2024, there was a boost in holiday traffic to Spanish favorites like Malaga, Mallorca, and Barcelona, as well as culturally rich Naples and sunny Antalya.
- Foreign holiday routes are becoming increasingly top of mind for Danes, so it's gratifying that we can offer a large summer program in 2024. Most of the routes have been launched, with Spain being very popular for Danish travelers. The new Ryanair route to Girona and the expanded routes to Barcelona and Alicante have started off really well. Additionally, we still have the new routes to Greenland and Nice to look forward to, but before that, we're diving into a large charter program starting here in May, along with Mallorca with Spies, which already started in mid-April," says CEO Niels Hemmingsen.
Many productive meetings at Routes Europe
Together with over 1,000 participants from airlines and airports from around the world, Aalborg Airport participated in Routes Europe, from April 22nd to 24th, this time held in Aarhus. Three full days were filled with exciting meetings with airlines and good conversations with all participants at the airport's own booth, where coffee and delicacies from Aalborg Chokoladen and Penny Lane were served.
- Routes Europe provides a unique opportunity for us as an airport to get closer to the various airlines, focusing on the many opportunities from Aalborg. With the event being held in Denmark this year, it made perfect sense for us to have our own booth, creating excellent visibility and strengthening the positive view of the airport and the entire North Jutland region. We've had many exciting meetings about new routes that we look forward to revealing in the near future," concludes CEO Niels Hemmingsen.
