Traffic Growth in the First Summer Month of the Year

The popular summer travel destinations have taken over the departure boards at Aalborg Airport, where June 2024 saw the addition of new non-stop routes to Nice, Greenland, and sunny Golden Sands. With the start of the school summer holidays, the joyful holiday atmosphere is in full swing, reflected by a 4.7 percent increase compared to June 2023.

June 2024 kicked off in the best way with the opening of the route to Nice, where the first eager travelers could experience the French Riviera directly from Aalborg Airport. While the number of domestic travelers did not quite reach last year's level, there was still a significant lift, particularly to new and well-known Southern European holiday destinations. In total, there were 138,837 travelers to and from the airport in June 2024 – corresponding to a 4.7 percent increase compared to June last year.

A Busy Summer Schedule and High Travel Demand

Holiday traffic abroad continued to thrive in June 2024 from Aalborg Airport, with 12.5 percent more travelers to destinations such as Antalya, Malaga, Crete, and Rhodes, which were some of the most popular holiday spots for the month.

  • As the school summer holidays approach, the demand for travel experiences has increased significantly – also aided by the slightly more unstable Danish summer weather, so airlines and travel companies have been particularly busy these days. We, therefore, expect a busy summer holiday period for holiday travelers abroad here at Aalborg Airport. From June, we also added new routes to Nice and Kangerlussuaq in Greenland to the schedule, so there are many exciting travel destinations on the program throughout the summer, says CEO Niels Hemmingsen.

Many Trips to Copenhagen & Bornholm

In June 2024, there were approximately 700 flights to and from Copenhagen and 30 flights to and from Bornholm, where the political event, 'Folkemødet' was held in June. There was a slight decline in domestic traffic compared to June last year – a decrease of 2.3 percent. This is due to fewer departures to Copenhagen than at the same time last year, but there have still been up to 16 daily departures in June, used by both business and holiday travelers, who also travel onward from Copenhagen to other parts of the world.

  • We still have a strong domestic product at Aalborg Airport, and although traffic to Copenhagen slows down during the summer due to the holidays, we expect fully booked flights in the coming months. Besides the great opportunities for a city break in our capital, the route also opens up exciting and exotic destinations outside of Europe, which are becoming increasingly popular among Jutland travelers, concludes Niels Hemmingsen.
