Full Flights to Sunny Destinations from Aalborg Airport in July

Flights to sunny and warm southern destinations were in high demand as usual in July 2024 from Aalborg Airport, with very few seats left to places such as the Greek islands and popular Spanish destinations like Alicante, Barcelona, and Malaga, as well as new additions Girona and Nice. The excitement for vacations was evident during this major summer holiday month, especially with the help of the rainy Danish weather.

International and charter traffic was particularly busy at Aalborg Airport in July 2024, as many Danes were eager to escape the record rainfall at home and instead seek warmer climates. A total of 135,913 passengers traveled to and from the airport this July, only 0.8 percent less than in the same month in 2023.

Expanded Holiday Program Ensures Growth in Charter Flights

This year's extensive charter program included a new route to Gazipasa in Turkey and more departures to always popular destinations like Rhodes and the Greek holiday gems Paleros, Lefkas, Parga, and Sivota. This resulted in a significant increase in the number of charter passengers to and from the airport in July 2024, with a nearly 10 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

- It is not entirely surprising that the Danish summer weather has been unstable in July, but this year has been exceptionally rainy. Many charter companies have therefore been almost fully booked, with high demand for the last available seats. This is clearly reflected in the traffic numbers, with fully booked flights for all 100 charter departures in July to various charter destinations from Aalborg," says CEO Niels Hemmingsen.

Continued Growth in International Traffic with New and Expanded Routes in Focus

In July 2024, the new Southern European routes to Nice and Girona were very popular, further boosting the number of international travelers to and from Aalborg Airport. The same applies to well-known routes such as Malaga and Alicante, where there were almost 28 percent more departures than in July last year. The most popular route of the month was Amsterdam with KLM, which served as a gateway to vacation experiences beyond Europe.

- The school summer holidays are coming to an end, and many eager travelers have traveled to sunny Southern Europe and to both Copenhagen and Amsterdam with a final destination outside of Europe. In contrast to some capacity challenges in larger airports last year, we can be pleased with the successful handling of holiday traffic this year. We have therefore also seen a significant increase on the Amsterdam route this year, which should be viewed in this context. We now look forward to a busy late summer period at Aalborg Airport, where we hope to unveil some news for next year, concludes Niels Hemmingsen.
