New Direct non-stop Route to Iceland from Aalborg Airport
Starting June 7, 2025, Icelandic airline PLAY will launch a direct non-stop route from Aalborg Airport to Reykjavik, Iceland, with two weekly departures during the summer. This is great news for travelers from Northern Jutland, who can now fly directly to the adventure-filled Iceland or continue their journey to the American East Coast or the vibrant city of Toronto.
Unique and fantastic destinations across the Atlantic are now even more accessible from Aalborg Airport. PLAY has just released tickets for their popular direct Iceland route for the summer of 2025, with flights departing on Tuesdays and Saturdays from June 7 to August 26.
Focus on International Transatlantic Routes
Aalborg Airport's international development continues, with a particular focus on transatlantic routes, driven by high demand from both leisure travelers and the business community. Additionally, there is significant cargo potential on a route like this, especially to and from Iceland. PLAY's decision to reopen the route was planned as soon as the Icelandic airline had available capacity.
- We are pleased to once again welcome PLAY to Aalborg Airport, where we have had an ongoing close dialogue about the start of their direct route to Iceland. The expectation was for the summer season of 2025, and now it has become a reality – to the great delight of leisure travelers and the business community in Northern Jutland. It is a big day for Aalborg Airport, and with PLAY at the helm, it will be exciting to explore the many opportunities this route offers. This includes options for direct and one-stop travel, as well as cargo potential, particularly for the fishing industry, states CEO at Aalborg Airport, Niels Hemmingsen.
PLAY will operate the route with an Airbus A320-200neo, which seats 180 passengers. The journey begins in Aalborg in the morning, heading towards Iceland, with an early afternoon arrival. In addition to the direct flights from Aalborg to Iceland, PLAY has placed greater focus on their one-stop trips to Boston, New York, Baltimore, Washington, and Toronto, which can easily be combined with a mini-vacation in Iceland at no extra flight cost.
- We are delighted to open our new route to Aalborg, providing Danish travelers with a convenient and cost-effective way to reach Iceland and onward to our North American destinations. Whether you want to explore Iceland's stunning nature or continue to the USA and Canada, our flights offer a great and relevant option. We look forward to welcoming Danes onboard and delivering the reliable service that defines PLAY, states CEO at PLAY, Einar Örn Ólafsson.
