Second Largest Travel Month Ever at Aalborg Airport
With a high travel activity to holiday favorites in Southern European and a business sector back in full swing after the summer, Aalborg Airport saw growth across the board in September 2024. Just under 160,000 passengers headed to destinations like Malaga, Mallorca, and the Greek islands, making September 2024 not only the biggest travel month in six years but also the second largest month in the history of the airport.
A combination of high business travel activity and a wide array of European holiday destinations traditionally makes September the busiest month of the year at Aalborg Airport. September 2024 was certainly no exception – with 159,624 passengers traveling to and from the airport, marking an overall increase of 5.9% compared to September 2023.
Great Desire to Travel in the First Autumn Month of the Year
With few empty seats on September's charter flights, it's clear that traditional charter and package holidays are in high demand among Danish vacationers. Additionally, international traffic saw strong activity in September 2024, with more departures than last year to destinations like Amsterdam, Malaga, and Oslo.
"We are now entering the final part of the summer schedule, and at the same time, the summer program for next year will be available for booking in the coming months. It's already possible to book trips to many of the well-known holiday destinations for next year. We will also start to see new route announcements, with Iceland and Greenland already confirmed for summer 2025. What other plans airlines and travel agencies have for next year remains to be seen, but for now, we can look forward to a busy autumn break and the start of the winter program," says CEO Niels Hemmingsen.
City Events Bring More Travelers to and from Copenhagen
Boosted by increased travel activity to and from Copenhagen, traffic figures for September 2024 show a continued positive development in domestic travel, with an increase of 3.9% compared to September last year.
"We have had a very positive outcome for domestic travel in September, continuing the positive trend from last month. The increase compared to last year can be attributed to several factors. Many leisure travelers are heading on vacation to Copenhagen, but there are also travelers in the other direction, with large events in Aalborg and the surrounding area creating an international awareness. For example, the World Firefighters Games 2024 took place here in September, and we noticed many people traveling via Copenhagen from all over the world. Currently, a European sustainability conference is being held, which is also expected to bring a significant number of people to the city," concludes Niels Hemmingsen.
