Double up on Route Openings at Aalborg Airport
Saturday the 10th of June was a very special day at Aalborg Airport, when PLAY was in the air for the first time, heading directly to fantastic Iceland and the capital Reykjavik. At the same time, there was a happy reunion with Norwegian's sunny and popular summer destination, Alicante. The day was celebrated in the traditional way with red ribbon, cake and water salute.
Balloons, flags, red ribbon and gold scissors – there was no doubt that there was something to be celebrated on the 10th of June. Two route openings were on the agenda – first with Alicante in gate 6 with departure at 11.00 a.m. and then Reykjavik in gate 11 with departure at 12.30 p.m.
- It's a really good day at Aalborg Airport. First, we had the pleasure of being able to once again send happy holiday guests to Alicante in Spain with Norwegian – a popular route which, among other things, benefits Danes with their own apartment in Alicante. We were then able to send the first flight directly to Reykjavik with PLAY, which is a important new route from Aalborg, and a route that has been worked on for several years. Not only does a direct route open up fantastic holiday experiences in Iceland, it also creates good opportunities to easily, and on a budget, fly on to both the American East Coast and Canada, says CEO at Aalborg Airport, Niels Hemmingsen.
Unique Travel Experiences Across the Atlantic with PLAY
The Icelandic airline PLAY has expanded their route network significantly in the last few years, where they in 2023 have focused on offering Danes a whole new range of unique travel opportunities – directly to scenic Iceland and one-stop to popular cities on the East Coast of the United States and most recently flights to the city of Toronto in Canada.
- New and fantastic destinations are now within reach from Aalborg Airport – with only one short stop on the way. We are happy to be fueling the travel dreams of Danes, that are also affordable, and where your travel can be put together in many ways. For example, it is possible to combine an extended weekend in Iceland with a city break in Toronto, New York or Washington, says CEO at PLAY, Birgir Jónsson.
