easyJet launches Aberdeen’s only direct flight to Geneva

easyJet, Scotland’s largest airline, this weekend launched services from Aberdeen to Geneva. It is easyJet’s third route from Aberdeen alongside London Gatwick and London Luton.

15th December 2014

The new route, which departed on Saturday 13th December, provides the only direct scheduled service from Aberdeen and will operate once per week on Saturdays throughout the winter. The route is expected to be popular with Scottish skiers looking for easy and affordable access to some of the world’s best ski slopes.

easyJet will operate the flights using a 156 seater Airbus A319 and expects the new route to attract around 3,500 passengers to and from Geneva this winter.  Fares start from £40.99 one way.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s Head of Scotland, said:

"As Scotland’s largest airline we are pleased to further strengthen our network at Aberdeen with the addition of Geneva. We believe that this exciting new European route will not only prove a popular addition to our network given its proximity to key European Ski resorts but also with holidaymakers looking for a break at Lake Geneva.

“We are excited to offer this alongside our London flights and the addition of this route takes our total volume of Aberdeen flights up to 40 per week during winter”

Carol Benzie, MD at Aberdeen International Airport, said: We are delighted that easyJet have launched this service, providing our customers with great access to European winter slopes. I am confident that it will prove popular amongst the many local skiers in our region and be a great winter break option.”

About Geneva: Geneva has a reputation for being an international meeting point. It is the location of the European headquarters of the United Nations, and a great many other multinational companies, and it is not difficult to see why the world comes here to meet. The hum of the city is contrasted with the stillness of the lake, making it a perfect place to relax.

Highlights include the 140m high fountain out in the lake or the ornate thermal spas built by Roman settlers. The city has a rich history and the monumental statues of Calvin and his associates are evidence of its key role in the Reformation.

Geneva also has a variety of offerings for families. The Genève Plage ,Geneva Beach, contains swimming pools, playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts and restaurants, and in summer pedalos are available for hire for exploring the lake. There are also lots of child-friendly activities around the city like the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle and the Bois de la Bâtie, a park with roaming peacocks and deer.

There are a number of ski resorts located just a bus ride away in the French Alps, and some notable towns and cities not too far away including Lausanne, Gruyeres, Evian, and last but not least Annecy, a pretty town with a medieval town centre built around a series of canals.
