BEFRIEND A CHILD ANNOUNCED AS ABERDEEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT’S NEW CHARITY PARTNER
Staff at Aberdeen International Airport were invited to vote for their preferred, official charity partner earlier this summer with an overwhelming majority of staff casting their vote for the local children’s charity, Befriend a Child.
The partnership will see the airport commit future fundraising events and donations to the Aberdeen based charity that works with disadvantaged children and young people in the local area.
Befriend a Child, who have recently embarked on a fundraising campaign with the aim to raise £100, 000 this summer, provide befriending services to children and the young people of Aberdeen in need of positive role models, also known as Befrienders, and experiences. The charity relies on public donations and fundraising to provide its befriending and mentoring services and Aberdeen International Airport is committed to contributing to the charity’s continued work with Aberdeen’s younger generations.
Carol Benzie, Managing Director at Aberdeen International Airport said: “We are delighted to announce our official charity partnership with Befriend a Child. Our charity partner is chosen by our own airport staff with a remarkable majority voting for Befriend a Child in admiration of the valuable work the organisation does in the local community. We look forward to working with befriend a child in the coming year and hope that our fundraising efforts will contribute to the continuation of the charity’s life changing work in the city and shire.”
Befrienders of the charity aim to introduce children to new activities and interests which might not otherwise be available to them. These positive relationships and experiences help to increase confidence and self-esteem in the children and are proven to be a valuable aid to their social, emotional and educational development.
