Traffic at Queen Alia Intl Airport hits 7,089,008 passengers during 2014

Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman, Jordan, achieved a major milestone in 2014 by surpassing the seven million passenger traffic benchmark with a 9% year-to-date (YTD) growth over the previous year.

The airport had welcomed a total of 7,089,008 passengers in 2014.
QAIA said since the beginning of 2014 and up until December, the year-to-date aircraft movements rose by 7.6 per cent to reach a total of 73,125.

These annual traffic figures are the culmination of 12 months of robust growth experienced at the Jordan airport in terms of passenger traffic and aircraft movements.
In December, the airport witnessed a total of 5,439 aircraft movements over 5,455 in 2013. QAIA served 497,824 passengers during the month, up 4.1 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.

"The overall growth experienced during 2014 is attributed to strong traffic performance during peak holiday seasons,” said Kjeld Binger, the CEO of Airport International Group, the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of QAIA.
This was mainly led by an increase in expatriate, tourism and Umrah travellers visiting the GCC, Egypt, Turkey and Iraq, he noted.

"During 2014, QAIA achieved several firsts in the airport’s history by exceeding 500,000 monthly passengers in January and February; 600,000 monthly passengers in April and May; 700,000 monthly passengers in August; and 600,000 monthly passengers in September, as opposed to the same months during 2013," he stated.

Binger said building on this success, the airport will continue to work towards further enhancing passenger capacity and service levels and helping QAIA reach its full potential.
"We particularly look forward to the completion of the second QAIA expansion phase that is currently underway, as it will enable Jordan’s prime gateway to further boost its annual traffic capacity to 12 million after 2016, and to 16 million by 2032," he added.
