January Passenger Numbers Rise by 1.6% at Queen Alia International Airport
Amman, March 2017
Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has seen a slight 1.6% rise in year-to-year passenger (PAX) numbers compared to January 2016, as revealed by Airport International Group (AIG) – the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of QAIA. During the first month of the year, the Airport welcomed 576,912 PAX compared to 567,823 PAX received in the same month of last year.
In January, the Airport also reported 5,819 aircraft movements (ACM) as opposed to 5,898 ACM in 2016, effecting a 1.3% year-on-year fall, while cargo figures dropped 7.0% as QAIA handled 7,036 tons compared to 7,561 tons during the same month of 2016.
“It is very gratifying to see QAIA kick off the year with such a great achievement, welcoming more than 570,000 passengers. We maintain a positive outlook for the current year, particularly in light of last year’s inauguration of the second phase of QAIA’s New Terminal Project, which increased the Airport’s annual passenger capacity to up to 12 million and added more gates and cutting-edge facilities that will enhance passenger experience. We also look forward to implementing a new strategy that aims at attracting new airlines to Jordan’s prime gateway to the world throughout the year,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger.
