TUI to invest in Swedish domestic air travel and launch six new direct routes to ski resort Sälen

One of Sweden’s biggest tour operators, TUI, is expanding its offering at Swedavia’s Stockholm Arlanda, Göteborg Landvetter and Malmö Airports. The company is launching new direct routes to Scandinavian Mountains Airport in Sälen in time for the winter season.

With the current situation, many people are taking holidays nearby. The Swedish tour operator TUI, part of the German TUI Group, is launching a long-term investment to expand its offering from sun and sea travel to include ski trips to the mountains of northern Sweden. The tour operator is launching six new domestic routes to Sälen in partnership with Scandinavian Mountains Airport, beginning in December.

The new routes will depart from Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö twice weekly between December and March, as well as on select dates from Norrköping, Ängelholm-Helsingborg and Växjö.

“We are delighted that TUI has chosen to invest in Sweden’s domestic market with new direct routes to the ski resort Sälen and sees new opportunities in these challenging times,” says Elizabeth Axtelius, Director Aviation Business at Swedavia.

“Health and safety are our highest priority, and in addition to the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s recommendations, we comply with international rules in the aviation industry. We have introduced a number of infection prevention measures as well as additional safety measures such as a recommendation for face masks, in order to create a safe, secure environment for passengers and employees at all of our airports,” Elizabeth Axtelius adds.

“Ski trips are something we have long been looking to launch, and now we saw an opportunity. We hope that many of our customers will appreciate the chance to conveniently fly non-stop with us to one of the most popular ski resorts in Sweden. Sälen offers activities in the fresh mountain air – I think many people are longing for this,” says Tommy Serban, Commercial Director at TUI.

To ensure the safety of air travel, TUI offers online check-in whenever possible. The company has also taken other strict measures such as deep-cleaning of aircraft between departures and equipping planes with high-efficiency particulate air or HEPA-filters, which clean the air to hospital standards. HEPA-filters capture up to 99.97 per cent of all microfibres and in that way significantly restrict the spread of airborne contaminants on board.

For many years, Swedavia has carried out ambitious sustainability work. All ten of the company’s airports shall have zero emissions of fossil carbon dioxide from their own operations by 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the industry’s transition to biofuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used to refuel aircraft at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025.
