George Best City Airport has teamed up with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)to facilitate a visit to a local nature reserve for primary school children.
As part of Belfast City Airport’s ‘Adopted School’ programme, the children of Victoria Park Primary School enjoyed a visit Belfast’s ‘Window on Wildlife’ (WOW) reserve to learn about the importance of protecting and supporting the local environment.
With over 12,000 members in Northern Ireland alone, RSPB NI plays a huge role in highlighting the importance of our natural heritage and protecting our most precious habitats and species.
Speaking about the visit, Karen Sheil, Education Development Officer at RSPB Northern Ireland said:
“It is brilliant to have the children at the reserve, we love sharing our knowledge and passion for our local environment and its inhabitants, as well as connecting children with nature.
“Belfast WOW has a great interactive programme for children where we teach them about all the wonderful species that make their homes in Northern Ireland and how they can care for their environment by taking action for nature in their schools and gardens.”
Environmental Manager at Belfast City Airport, Laura Duggan, said:
“Belfast City Airport understands the importance of protecting our local environment, through our corporate membership with RSPB NI we recognise the need to protect local bird species in the environment we operate in.
“We are glad to play a role in educating the young children on the significance the natural environment in Northern Ireland and in particular what they can do to help protect it.”
