BELFAST CITY AIRPORT NAMED NI RESPONSIBLE COMPANY OF THE YEAR
Airport praised for innovation, creativity and sustained commitment to Corporate Responsibility at prestigious awards
George Best Belfast City Airport has been named Northern Ireland’s Responsible Company of the Year 2017.
The award was presented at a gala dinner at Belfast Waterfront on Thursday night, with over 500 business leaders from across Northern Ireland gathering for the Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards, one of the most prestigious award ceremonies on the local business calendar.
Responsible Company of the Year is awarded to companies that show remarkable innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to corporate responsibility. Belfast City Airport was not only able to demonstrate the positive impact it has on society, but also the business benefits operating responsibly has.
Other companies shortlisted in the category included Encirc Ltd, Firmus Energy, Heron Bros Ltd, Moy Park, Survitec Group and Ulster Bank Ltd.
Michelle Hatfield, Director of HR and Corporate Responsibility at the airport, said:
“It is an honour to receive this accolade from Business in the Community, which is testament to the efforts made by everyone at the airport. Corporate Responsibility is a key objective at the airport and we have worked with BITC on a number of projects and initiatives to strengthen our CR offering, achieving the sought-after CORE accreditation in 2015.
“We deliver an award-winning Community Commitment Plan which focuses on four key strands – Community, Education, Environment and People. These areas form our core values, which are at the heart of all operations within the airport.
“Through this Community Plan, we are able to work in partnership with our Adopted Schools, other local schools, charities and other organisations.
“The main vehicle through which we deliver our Community Commitment Plan is our Community Fund, which has provided over £330,000 worth of financial support to a number of local projects.
“Established in 2009, it enables us to build sustainable relationships with our neighbours through a range of engaging sports projects, arts initiatives and environmental and educational schemes.”
The judges faced a very difficult task, but in the end, the panel was unanimous in its choice favoring the airport as an organization that strives to do its utmost to enrich the local community, protect the environment whilst positively engaging its workforce and business partners.
Roy Adair CBE, Chair of Business in the Community and Chief Executive of Belfast Harbour, said:
“The Responsible Business Awards are a valuable opportunity to showcase and share responsible business practices, but also to celebrate the great things that Northern Ireland businesses are doing throughout the year.
“I hope that the achievements of the winning companies will inspire others to put responsible business at the heart of everything they do.”
