Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas/São Paulo, won the Cargo Airport of the Year award at the 2024 edition of the Air Cargo Week World Air Cargo Awards. The awards ceremony was held this Wednesday (06/26) at the New Shanghai International Expo Center, in China.

Viracopos was the only Brazilian airport to compete for the award as a finalist. The World Air Cargo Awards is one of the main global awards in the area of air logistics and recognizes airlines, airports, cargo agents, dispatchers, sales agents in general and logistics service providers.

In total, ten categories were awarded, including Cargo Airport of the Year. The winners were chosen by voting, which could only be done via corporate e-mails.

“The World Air Cargo Awards are one of the most important awards in the world in the area of cargo logistics and this achievement shows that we continue to improve our services to further enhance the experience of our customers,” said Viracopos CEO Gustavo Müssnich. “In the year in which it completes 12 years of concession, the concessionaire Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos continues to win awards and invest in improvements to operate efficiently, safely and quickly as one of the best Brazilian airports,” added Müssnich.

“We are all very happy with this important recognition for the airport. With this, Viracopos reinforces its leadership in cargo aviation among Brazilian airports, and remains active in offering new routes and new business,” said Viracopos Commercial Director Maria Fan.

“It is very important to highlight the essential participation and joint work between the airport, airlines, cargo agents, customs brokers, carriers and the public agencies that operate at the airport, such as the Federal Revenue Service, Federal Police, Anvisa, Ibama, ANAC and MAPA. Without these partnerships, it would not have been possible to win this award”, added the Commercial Director.

TECA: a history of awards

In recent years, Viracopos Airport has been on the podium of several international awards. In 2020, the aerodrome was elected the 3rd Best Cargo Airport in the World (in the category of up to 400 thousand tons/year) at the Air Cargo Excellence Awards, an award held at the time by Air Cargo World, which is also one of the main publications in the global cargo sector.

In 2018, the Viracopos Cargo Terminal won the top award, being elected the Best Cargo Airport in the World in the category of up to 400 thousand tons/year.

In 2014, the Air Cargo Excellence Awards had already awarded Viracopos as the second best in Latin America, in addition to recognizing the terminal as the Best Airport in Latin America in the Cargo Operations category. In 2015, Viracopos was awarded the title of Best Cargo Airport in Latin America.
