On Sunday 4th December, two Christmas Fairies landed at Edinburgh Airport to spread their sparkle by surprising passengers who had been nominated by someone they know.
Passengers who were travelling on the 4th, or who knew someone who was, were encouraged on social media to submit nominations for a loved-one who deserves a wish come true.
From the many nominations received, ten lucky wish winners were chosen to have a handpicked gift or experience delivered to them at the airport. The whole activity was captured on video, and the surprise reactions were priceless. The video was published on the airport’s social media accounts, and has had a very warm and positive response so far. On Facebook alone, the video has reached over 316,000 people and has received 1500 reactions.
The most special thing about the campaign was feeling of festive cheer throughout the airport that day. Each wish winner was truly touched by the surprise, and personal messages of love and thanks.
The O’Neil family were surprised on their return from Disneyland Paris, after Kirsty O’Neil nominated her husband Kevin – who is battling cancer – and their three old son Nathan. Kirsty said “What a fantastic surprise. I think we're all still in shock. What an amazing group of staff and people that we met today, totally overwhelmed with your generosity” and told us that little Nathan talked non-stop about the fairies at nursery the next day, forgetting all of the characters he’d met at Disney!
