That’s a wrap
Passengers at Edinburgh Airport will get a taste of Mexico when Barburrito opens in the departures area early next year.
The UK’s first burrito bar chain will open in January, making it the chains 8th site in Scotland and 4th in Edinburgh.
It will be the first Barburrito to operate in an airport and will create 20 jobs.
Passengers will be able to sit in to eat or take food on board their flight – an option available at all of the airport’s eateries.
And there’s a special Edinburgh Airport breakfast menu which isn’t available on the high street, including breakfast burritos, taco pots, pancakes and eggs rancheros, as well as breakfast favourites like bacon rolls.
The shop will also be equipped with USB points and plug sockets for customers to charge phones and tablets, or even video call home.
Retail & Property Director at Edinburgh Airport, Richard Townsend said:
“Improving facilities and options for passengers is important to us and we want to ensure they have a variety of places they can relax in.
“It’s great to see renowned brands like Barburrito coming to work with us and wanting to be part of Scotland’s busiest airport as passenger figures continue to grow.
“So not only are we adding more choice for destinations but we’re adding more choice of cuisine, and we will be delivering even greater options as part of our terminal expansion project.”
Morgan Davies, CEO of Barburrito, said:
“This is the start of an exciting partnership with TRG Concessions and Edinburgh airport. With an established operating model working across 21 locations, we felt that it was time to explore a franchise operation with a sector leader in this space.
“Edinburgh Airport is a fantastic location to launch the first of these. My first ever job was working in the sky shops at Edinburgh Airport and it is personally exciting to be returning to open a business at this fantastic airport.”
Managing Director of TRG Concessions Nick Ayerst added:
“We are excited to be working with Barburrrito to bring a concept that’s new to Edinburgh Airport.
“We are certain Barburrito will be well received by passengers and are looking forward to further strengthening the food and beverage offer at the airport.
“We are delighted to be establishing a presence in Edinburgh Airport, and we very much look forward to developing relationships with all of our new partners.”
