Golf Fans Fly to Edinburgh for the 2018 Carnoustie Open
The 2018 British Open commenced this morning in the Scottish seaside town of Carnoustie.
The world-famous golf tournament draws more than 170,000 spectators every year, and generates more than £110 million according to a study commissioned by the R&A.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon noted that Scotland looks ‘forward to welcoming the world to Carnoustie’, and Sturgeon isn’t exaggerating; The Open consistently attracts an international crowd. In fact, almost half of the spectators that attend The Open travel from outside of Scotland. Edinburgh Airport can expect to see visitors from England, Europe, and as far as North America and Australia.
Attending the 2018 Open? Transport to Carnoustie from Edinburgh Airport is simple. Hop on the tram to Edinburgh Gateway, where you can transfer to a ScotRail train that will take you directly to Carnoustie.
