About The Airport
GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited (GAL), is developing a Greenfield Airport at Mopa in North Goa, approximately 35 km north of the centre of Panjim, the Goa State Capital. This Airport Project is based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, with scope to Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT).
Large numbers of international and domestic tourists visit natural beauty and bountiful avenues in Goa for leisure and relaxation other than places of worship and world heritage architecture. Goa received over 7.75 million tourists in 2017, the majority of which were domestic. The key international tourists are from Russia and the UK, followed by France and Germany.
The Airport was awarded to GAL on 28th Aug, 2016, following an International competitive bidding (ICB) process. The concession agreement was signed between GGIAL and Govt. of Goa (GoG).
Phase 1 of the Airport is to service about 4.4 million passengers per annum and will be scaled up in phases as per traffic growth. This Airport will be a full-service airport operating 24/7 catering to domestic and international passenger besides freight services.
