About The Airport

The New International Airport of Heraklion, Crete will be the second busiest airport in Greece, as an operational continuity of the existing State Airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis”.

The New Airport is ideally located in the center of Crete.

  •  It will be just a 25-minute drive from Heraklion, the largest administrative and financial centre of the island, including its port, via the Northern Road Axis (BOAK),
  • It will connect the North Road Axis (BOAK) with the South (NOAK) through a new modern highway of two express lanes and one emergency lane in each direction. This is the first interconnection of North and South Crete with a modern road network, creating new prospects for development and access to the Valley of Messara, Ierapetra, Kaloi Limenes, Tympaki.
  • It will be less than 20 minutes away from Hersonissos, while with the completion of the tendered section of BOAK, the new airport will serve travelers from Chania, Rethymno and Sitia in much shorter times and with road safety.
