Royal Air Maroc Commences Daily Flight from Casablanca to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen
Royal Air Maroc, the national carrier of Morocco, launched daily flights from Casablanca to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen. This route is to be carry out with Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 171 passengers, including 12-business class.
With the commencement of this route, Royal Air Maroc became the third airline after Pegasus Airlines and Air Arabia to offer scheduled flights between Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and Casablanca, supplying to the growing travelling demand between the two countries. In 2018, over 160,000 Moroccan visited Turkey, a growth of 57% compared to 2017. Royal Air Maroc expected to be an official Oneworld alliance member by the end of this year, making it the second Oneworld alliance member to operate in Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.
On the inaugural flight, the aircraft welcomed with a traditional water salute followed by a welcoming ceremony, where the arriving passengers served with the traditional Turkish delight. The chief pilot and cabin crew were also welcomed with flowers upon the arrival. Necip Çakmak Deputy Governor of Istanbul, Hasan Naiboğlu, HEAS General Manager, Nilgün Selvi, Sabiha Gökçen Airport Police Chief, Dato Azmi Murad, Executive Director, Gerald Ong, Director, Aviation Marketing and, Göksu Güney, Operation Director at ISG, Ifriquine Mohammed, Consulate General of Morocco, Abdelhamid Khalil, Vice President of Europe and Hachem Batras, Regional Director, Turkey & Greece, Royal Air Maroc, alongside senior executives of the airport and passengers attended the cake cutting ceremony.
