WIZZ AIR IN KOŠICE: BASE FOR A NEW AIRBUS AND TWO NEW ROUTES

Wizz Air´s 20th base at Kosice Airport

Košice International Airport and Wizz Air agreed on a creation of base for the carrier´s Airbus A320, starting in September 2015. This aircraft base will bring to Košice approximately 30 direct jobs and two new routes: to metropolis of Italian region Lombardy, Milan (Milan Bergamo) and to northern UK Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Both connections will be operated on a twice weekly basis. Seats on the routes are already on sale starting from 19,99 € (one way, incl. taxes and a small cabin bag) on wizzair.com. Together with existing offer of daily flights to London Luton, Wizz Air will offer 11 weekly flights from Košice.

I believe that – as far as route development of Košice and the whole region is concerned – together with Košice Airport, we have just started,“ said the mayor of Košice Richard Raši.

Placing of a new Airbus A320 to Košice is for us a sign that Wizz Air is satisfied with the quality of services we provide and that it shares with us our trust in this city and the region which have potential for more new routes. Together with our partners - city of Košice, Košice Tourism, Košice Self-governing region and Košice 2013 - we are working very hard on the connection to Germany and we will do our best to make it happen as soon as possible.”

On today´s press conference in Košice József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air said: “Today’s announcement underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to Slovakia. We started our operations in Slovakia just 1.5 years ago and already carried over 130 000 passengers. Slovakia is becoming our 12th country where we have established base operations. We look forward to bringing more low fares and attractive routes to Slovakian consumers and their visitors.”


Vicemayor of Košice and chairman of the board of Košice Tourism Renáta Lenártová said: "United Kingdom and Italy our stabile members of TOP 10 incoming markets for Slovakia. Therefore I am convinced that the new routes announced today have the potential to significantly contribute to intensive development of Košice as a touristic destination. Wizz Air´s base in Košice also opens new horizons for next route development.“
President of Košice Self-govenrning Region Zdenko Trebuľa: „New flight connections from Košice is great news for Košice Self-governing Region and whole Eastern Slovakia. They rapidly increase mobility of our people and our accessibility for tourists and potential investors. I believe that the cherry on the cake – connection to Germany – will be added very soon.”
