Lodz Airport: World Falconry Day
It is time to appreciate the extraordinary work of falconers who safeguard people’s safety while promoting daily harmony between humans and nature.
At our airport, this unique mission is carried out by Andrzej Fijałkowski, a Specialist in Airport Wildlife Management, who works alongside birds of prey and a Border Collie.
Andrzej’s team includes Gostek, a nimble and intelligent Harris’s hawk. This bird, native to Central America, stands out for its unique trait: in the wild, it hunts in groups, a rarity among birds of prey. At our airport, Gostek excels in his role, skillfully scaring off smaller birds that could pose a threat to departing and arriving planes.
Another key player is Falco, a Border Collie and true professional. His job is to keep birds away from the airport grounds, significantly reducing the risk of bird-plane collisions. Thanks to his intelligence and excellent training, Falco not only knows how to effectively deter birds but also directs them away from the runway.
We’d like to thank this extraordinary team for their dedication and professionalism! 🦅🐾✈
