New investment activities at Cargo Area South
As soon as consent is obtained from the local planning authority, DH Beteiligungen AG will set up a logistics security centre at Cargo Area South to ensure safe shipment, storage and handling of high-value products and industrial goods.  An appropriate building lease agreement between Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH and DH Beteiligungen AG has already been signed.
The availability of international cargo flights was a significant factor in choosing a suitable location. The operators of the logistics security centre will find a perfect environment for their business at the Leipzig/Halle cargo hub airport.
The logistics security centre will have a floor space of approximately 67,000 square metres, several storeys and a net usable area of 24,438 square metres.
Due to this investment, a logistics facility will be established at Leipzig/Halle Airport to allow increasingly complex transport, handling, storage and distribution processes involving high-value products and goods to be carried out appropriately in the long run. The new logistics security centre will also satisfy the ever-growing need for security.

Approximately 100 million euros will be invested and about 100 new jobs created. The new logistics security centre will be set up south of the S8a slip road and will be used to store, handle and distribute high-value products and goods from all corners of the world in the future.

Modern, ecological building
Cutting-edge security technologies and logistics concepts will be used to build the logistics security centre.  In addition to modern building materials, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic plants and geothermal energy will be employed.

Ideal conditions for logistics companies
The establishment of the new logistics security centre will be another significant step in strengthening Leipzig/Halle's position as an air cargo transhipment point of European importance.
After the opening of the World Cargo Center, which is also used by Lufthansa Cargo, the new logistics security centre will be the second logistics property to be set up at Cargo Area South.

Dierk Näther, Managing Director Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH:
"The new facilities to be built at Cargo Area South underscore the attractiveness of the Leipzig/Halle air cargo hub for globally acting companies from the logistics sector.
The logistics security centre will create new jobs and further strengthen the airport's role as the driving force behind the region's development. "

Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH is a subsidiary of the Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding. In 2008, more than 2.46 million passengers and 442,406 tonnes of air cargo were registered, thus making Leipzig/Halle the third largest cargo airport in Germany.
