Melbourne 2009-2010 Financial Year - a record year.

The past year has seen a number of key events for Melbourne.

The introduction of international services from a number of new airlines to the Melbourne market, including Qatar Airways and V Australia.

  • The introduction of more A380 services into Melbourne - launch of daily SQ A380 services, the expansion of Qantas A380 services from Melbourne with launch of Melbourne- London services and expansion of services on the Melbourne Los Angeles route.
  • The past year has also seen increased capacity from a number of airlines, including Air Asia X, Air Mauritius, Air Vanuatu, Garuda Airways, Pacific Blue, Philippine Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and increases to the Jetstar and Tiger Airways domestic network from Melbourne.
  • Melbourne Airport was also awarded the Low Cost Airport of the Year award (for 2009) by Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation in recognition of the airport's commitment to cater to a range of pricing levels whilst maintaining quality service.

These positive results are testament to Victoria and Melbourne's global standing. 

  • The future is also positive with airlines announcing new international services from Melbourne (outlined below). Melbourne also looks forward to welcoming the world's airlines to Melbourne later this year as we host IATA schedules conference November 11-14.

o    Air India, announcing its entry into the Austalian market by launching daily Melbourne Delhi services from November.

o   Qantas has also announcing it will be progressively increasing A380 services from Melbourne to London culminating in daily services and to Los Angeles to six services a week by March next year.

o   Jetstar announcing daily direct flights from Melbourne to Singapore from December, and 2 per week Melbourne - Queenstown services.

o   China Southern and Air China both increasing to daily services from November.
