Melbourne Airport Jetstar's launch pad to Asia
Melbourne Airport welcomes the commencement of Jetstar’s inaugural Singapore, Auckland and Queenstown services.
The new services will double Jetstar’s international capacity from Melbourne Airport, Jetstar’s Australian home, and provide travellers with an additional 387,000 low fare seats per year.
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said that Jetstar’s new daily Singapore service would provide Victorians with even more low fare access to destinations across Asia via its Singapore base.
“The important role Jetstar’s direct Singapore service plays in strengthening travel and tourism links with Asia cannot be overstated,” he said.
“Asia is Victoria’s fastest growing market and Melbourne is now Jetstar’s launch pad to the region with a further 22 Asian destinations from Singapore, including Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Taipei and Osaka.”
“Closer to home, Jetstar’s trans-Tasman growth with new direct Melbourne flights to Auckland and Queenstown provides Victorians with terrific value and greater choice of travel options to New Zealand.”
“Since commencing services in 2004 Jetstar have made an outstanding contribution to the growth of Melbourne’s domestic and international market, putting affordable travel within the reach of more Victorians.”
“Jetstar continues to be a key driver behind the growth of tourism in Victoria, providing competition, capacity and low cost fares for travel between Melbourne and a growing number of Australian and international destinations.”
“Jetstar now provides direct international services from Melbourne to Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown using its fleet of single-class A320 aircraft, and to Singapore, Bali and Bangkok on its two-class A330-200 fleet featuring StarClass, Jetstar’s international business class.”
“In their short six year history Jetstar have significantly boosted employment in Victoria’s tourism, hospitality and related industries.”
“Melbourne Airport is proud to be Jetstar’s home and is well-poised to support their continued growth into the future with our $330 million international terminal expansion.”
“We thank Jetstar for their continued support of the Victorian market and look forward to working with them as they continue to expand their services from Melbourne.”
