Unserved routes ahead!
Attractive growth opportunities available in the Blue Ocean
“In addition to the significant growth that we have seen in 2017, there are still attractive blue ocean opportunities for airlines in Nuremberg,” says Christian Käser, Head of Aviation Marketing & Business Development at Nuremberg Airport.“The level of direct competition has not increased in the recent months,” he adds.
The attractive unserved markets include Scandinavia, Poland, France and New York. Current indirect O&D traffic to Scandinavia is at 38,000 passengers every year with ARN, CPH, OSL, HEL. With regard to Poland, Skyscanner analyses reveal 30,000 annual searches for a nonstop route between Nuremberg and Warsaw, proving that there is enormous potential to satisfy business demand. With only CDG on NUE’s route map, France is another unserved market. Attractive destinations such as BOD, NCE and LYS each offer potential for up to 25,000 passengers total per year and even more in the case of LCC stimulation.
The most important underserved market, however, is still London. Currently, there are double daily nonstop flights to only one London airport (STN) and an NUE–LHR route has the potential for up to 190,000 passengers per year. Other major European capitals such as Lisbon, Dublin, Edinburgh and Moscow still lack a nonstop service to NUE. Beyond Europe, New York is an attractive long-haul destination for business and leisure travelers. With current leakage at 73% and potential for a maximum of 110,000 passengers per year, it presents an excellent opportunity.
“The blue ocean campaign has created new awareness for Nuremberg in the airline market,”
says Jürgen Kohstall, VP Marketing & Communications at Nuremberg Airport. “More and more carriers are realizing the opportunities we offer.”
