A record-breaking all-time High!

The last three months have seen record-breaking traffic figures in Nuremberg. For the very first time in the history of Albrecht Dürer Airport Nürnberg, passenger numbers passed the 400,000 mark. Incredible!

 For the last 10 years, August 2007 has held the record high of 399,000 total passengers. This year, however, the airport broke its own record with 418,000 total passengers in June and 438,000 in July.

As if that were not enough, in August 2017 the record highs of June and July were beaten for the third month in a row, with a total of 473,000 passengers. This represents an increase of 21.3% on the previous year. Main drivers for this growth are Ryanair, Germania, Eurowings and Wizz Air.

The diversification of airlines at our airport in recent years is paying off: new airlines, new destinations and larger aircraft are contributing to our success. What is just as pleasing is that 100% of all passengers are locals, which means that the source of demand is directly from the region. This leads to maximum utilization of the terminal and airport, especially in the public areas such as those before the security check.

 Passengers from Nuremberg tend to choose destinations in Spain, Turkey and Greece. The most popular destination is still Palma de Mallorca.

The series of records looks likely to continue: not only did the airport break its own monthly record, but for the first time since the beginning of the decade, the four million passenger mark is set to be broken again. In the year to date, NUE has had one of the highest growth rates among German airports.
