A record-breaking year!
More than 4 million local passengers for the first time in 2017
We are proud to announce that last year Nuremberg Airport set a new record for passenger numbers. With 700,000 additional passengers, the airport broke the 4 million mark for the first time since 2010. Until now it has only been possible to achieve this figure with transfer passengers.
This rapid development is mainly due to new routes and the expanded capacity of Eurowings, Germania, Ryanair and Wizz Air. A total of 18 new destinations were added last year. The flight schedule now includes over 60 non-stop destinations, which are regularly served by 17 different airlines. In 2017 we were also pleased to welcome new customers such as bmi regional and HOP!
Traffic increased by over 20%, resulting in a total of 4,186,962 passengers. This makes us one of Germany’s elite airports. The last time traffic increased by over 20% was in 1969, when the total number of passengers was less than 400,000.
“I’d like to thank our airline and industry partners for their extraordinary commitment”, says Christian Käser, Head of Aviation Marketing and Business Development, “It’s been a fantastic year.” While he is naturally impressed with the figures for 2017, Käser identifies winning the World Routes Marketing Award in September as a “special honour”. And he’s already looking ahead to next year: “We hope to retain this success in 2018”, he says, “The fact that we have such strong partners means I’m confident we will.”
Our main goals are now to establish the new routes and to adapt the flight schedule together with you in order to meet the requirements of the economy and people from the Nuremberg region.
