All set for a record summer
Nuremberg Airport’s summer flight schedule offers business travellers and holidaymakers eight interesting new destinations. The schedule's highlights include Warsaw (LOT Polish Airlines), Dubai (Condor/FTI) and the extensive range of flights made possible by Eurowings’ establishment of a base in Nuremberg. The summer flight plan features more than 60 non-stop destinations, all of which are available for booking with immediate effect.
From 7 May, LOT Polish Airlines will fly to Warsaw twice daily. This provides a connection to LOT’s route network, which primarily serves Eastern Europe and Asia. Dubai is the first ever destination within the UAE to be served non-stop from Nuremberg. Starting on 25 March, Condor will serve this route exclusively for the tour operator FTI. After opening its own base and stationing an aircraft at Nuremberg, Eurowings is ready to hit new heights from the end of March: the airline has made many passengers happy by adding Olbia on the island of Sardinia to the schedule. There are also flights to both Palermo and now Catania on Sicily. Eurowings has also joined Germania in serving Crete and Mallorca, the two most popular islands among locals in Nuremberg region.
Turkey is making a comeback with a wide range of flights this summer: a number of airlines (now also including Germania) operate several flights daily to the holiday paradise of Antalya. SunExpress remains the market leader with two flights daily. Corendon Airlines will also operate daily flights. Bodrum is the latest Turkish destination to be added to Nuremberg’s schedule: Tailwind Airlines will fly once a week to the popular region on the Turkish Aegean (flights can be booked via the tour operator FTI).
With four stationed aircraft and as many as 27 non-stop destinations, Germania is the best represented tourist airline in Nuremberg. The latest addition to its wide range of destinations is Bastia. This is the first time an airline has flown from Nuremberg to Corsica. Tunisia is experiencing a revival with flights to Monastir. Germania's impressive range of destinations stretches from the Canary Islands in the west to Tel Aviv in the east, and from Iceland in the north to Marsa Alam in the south.
Ryanair offers an large number of well-priced flights to cities such as Budapest, Rome, Manchester and London. Italy remains the centre of attention. Aegean and Germania now also fly to Thessaloniki in Greece.
The new destinations: Dubai, Olbia, Catania, Monastir, Djerba, Bastia, Bodrum and Warsaw. Five destinations served in summer 2017 will be dropped due to insufficient demand: Belgrade and Tuzla (Wizz Air), Birmingham (bmi regional), Sylt (Rhein-Neckar Air) and Verona (Ryanair).
The three main airlines (Ryanair, Eurowings and Germania) together represent around 50 percent of the market share in Nuremberg. With over 60 destinations, the airport can look forward to a record summer. A look at the schedule suggests that the peak month will be August, with 475,000 passengers. With 30 flights departing every day and ten European hub destinations on the schedule, Nuremberg has already set its own new record.
