Southwest begins nonstop flights to Baltimore-Washington DC

New service meets demand for coast-to-coast flights at OAK

Oakland, Calif. – September 5, 2023: Today, Southwest Airlines begins nonstop service to Baltimore/Washington DC (BWI). The flight will operate daily on Southwest’s Boeing 737 aircraft seating 175 passengers. The flights feature free enroute on-demand movies, texting and live TV streamed to passengers' own mobile devices. As always, beverages, snacks and up to two checked bags plus one carry-on are included in the Southwest airfare.

The airport estimates 900 people per day travel from the San Francisco East Bay to the Baltimore/ Washington DC metropolitan area. The new Southwest Airlines flight addresses demand by air travelers for transcontinental flights that allow them to use OAK and skip enroute stops when flying coast to coast.  

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), which is situated in the Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia metroplex, is located just 33 miles from the capital in Washington D.C. Travelers going in both directions can easily connect to numerous destinations from both OAK and BWI affording easy, one-stop connections.
