OAK first U.S. airport to sell COVID test kits in vending machines
Oakland, Calif. – January 27, 2021: Oakland International Airport became the first airport in the United States this week to sell COVID test kits in vending machines. Contactless kiosks located at both airport terminals offer at-home COVID test kits. The At-Home Saliva RT-PCT test asks customers to return a saliva sample via FedEx and get results on a mobile phone app.
The COVID test kits were designed by digital health company Wellness 4 Humanity. The vending machines are produced by Swyft, a leader in retail automation. Test kits range from $130 to $150.
“As one of the first airports to offer on-site rapid COVID testing, we are now providing even more testing options for travelers,” said Bryant L. Francis, Port of Oakland Aviation Director. “We still urge travelers to make sure they are current on any quarantines and regulations at their destinations.”
For those traveling to Hawaii, please note that this additional COVID test option is separate from, and not part of, the State of Hawaii Department of Health's pre-travel testing program. The current details of the Hawaii program can be found on the State of Hawaii website: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/. Details for that program and appointments can be found at CityHealthUC.org
The circumstances of travel-related COVID testing are continually changing. Oakland International Airport urges travelers to familiarize themselves with the latest developments at their destination point.
