Allegiant announces Pittsburgh Expansion

New service to New Orleans and Palm Beach and more flights to Myrtle Beach

Allegiant today announces further expansion of its flights from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) with new nonstop flights to New Orleans and Palm Beach, Fla. beginning Feb. 19, 2016, as well as expanded service to Myrtle Beach. To celebrate, Allegiant is offering local travelers one-way fares to both destinations for as low as $39*.

Allegiant has expanded quickly in Pittsburgh since bringing its brand of ultra-low-cost travel to the ‘Steel City’ earlier this year. Summer flights to Myrtle Beach began in June 2015 and, due to their popularity, will return even earlier in April, 2016. With these new flights, Allegiant will fly nonstop to seven year-round and seasonal destinations with a peak of 18 weekly flights. The expansion coincides with the establishment of Allegiant’s 13th aircraft base in Pittsburgh, employing up to 40 locally-based pilots, flight attendants and airport service personnel.

“We’re excited to offer more choice and more destinations for nonstop travel from Pittsburgh,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant Travel Company senior vice president of planning. “We know Myrtle Beach, New Orleans and Palm Beach are popular destinations for Pittsburghers and are pleased to continue growing to become the region’s go-to company for vacation travel.”

 Flights from New Orleans will begin Feb. 19, 2016 from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and will operate twice weekly with fares as low as $39*

 Seasonal flights to Palm Beach will begin Feb. 19, 2016 from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) and will operate twice weekly through May 16, 2016 with fares as low as $39*

 Expanded seasonal service to Myrtle Beach will begin April 7, 2016 from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), two months earlier than last year

“Allegiant has demonstrated that it believes in the Pittsburgh region’s market by continually upping its nonstop destinations from Pittsburgh International Airport,” Allegheny County executive Rich Fitzgerald said. “We’re excited to see their commitment to this region, reflected by the planned crew base that will add jobs next month, and are proud to have Allegiant as a partner.”

“We’re very happy with the partnership we have with Allegiant and the success they’ve had in our growing market,” Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said. “Allegiant is now up to seven nonstop destinations to go along with their planned crew base, and we look forward to continuing this partnership as we continue to grow.”

Allegiant offers a unique travel option to the Pittsburgh community. Focusing solely on low-cost leisure travel, the company offers low base fares, nearly half the cost of the average domestic roundtrip ticket. The innovative business model has allowed the company to grow from one aircraft and one route just over a decade ago, to offering convenient, affordable vacation travel in over 100 communities nationwide.
