Pittsburgh International Airport Unveils New Brand Identity; Passenger Traffic Continues To Increase
New brand reflects recent improvements in passenger experience, represents renewed efforts to move onward and upward
The Allegheny County Airport Authority has launched a new brand identity to better reflect recent improvements at Pittsburgh International Airport as well as the ongoing renaissance of the Pittsburgh region.
The new brand, which includes new logos for the Authority, Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport, was unveiled at the monthly Board of Directors meeting Friday morning.
“This new brand identity not only represents our vision of becoming a world leader in aviation, but also our continued efforts to move onward and upward,” said CEO Christina Cassotis. “We are moving onward past the old hub mentality and upward to becoming the envied origin and destination airport.”
The new logo contains a subtle navigation pin hinting at travel and the airport’s capability of being both a point of origin and a welcoming destination. Dynamic colors provide a strong foundation, while revealing the silhouette of an aircraft. See and learn more at www.flypittsburgh.com.
Paul O’Rourke, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Authority, said the new brand is designed to capture the authority’s refined mission and vision as well as revitalization in the Pittsburgh region.
“With increased air service, enhanced customer service and the addition of new amenities, we believe this new brand is a closer representation of Pittsburgh International and the hardworking people who keep it running day in and day out,” O’Rourke said. “It’s also a manifestation of the progress and positive change we’ve undergone in the last couple of years. Like the city it so proudly serves, Pittsburgh International is experiencing its own renaissance, and we’re just getting started.”
Also on Friday, the Authority announced passenger traffic figures for February 2016, which show a 3.6 percent increase over February 2015 and the most passengers of any February since 2011. In February this year, 554,846 total passengers traveled through the airport compared to 535,439 in 2015.
Year to date total airport passenger traffic is also up 3 percent. For the first two months of 2016, Pittsburgh International logged 1,114,893 total passengers compared with 1,082,780 passengers in the first two months of 2015. Increases can be attributed, in part, to additional domestic and international routes, larger aircraft and additional seats and flight frequency.
At Pittsburgh International Airport, 13 carriers serve 54 destinations nonstop. Recent facility enhancements include remodeled restrooms, updated baggage claim, a more efficient international arrivals process and new artwork including the Airside Terminal terrazzo floor.
Two firms local to Pittsburgh, Combine of Carnegie, Pa., and Marketspace Communications of Cranberry, Pa., assisted in the brand identity development.
The brand unveiling will be followed by an aggressive integrated marketing and communications effort, including a new ad campaign to increase awareness among consumers and trade audiences alike, as well as a new website to better serve their needs from flight information and parking availability to the latest airport news and news about our region.
