Pittsburgh International's Passenger Traffic, Flights, Cargo Continue to Increase

Passenger traffic continues to grow at a healthy rate at Pittsburgh International Airport through the first two months of 2017, bolstered by new flights and additional capacity.

In the month of February, the airport saw 564,135 passengers. This is a 1.7 percent increase above February 2016 which had 554,846 passengers, and the most passengers of any February since 2008. The airport has also seen a 3.4 percent increase in total passengers year-to-date, with 1,153,098 passengers in 2017 compared with 1,114,893 passengers in 2016.

Additionally, cargo volume was up 5.9 percent year-to-date, and mail was up 2.3 percent, statistics that point to an increasingly healthy and improving regional economy. Available seats and flights at Pittsburgh International also increased in February. New service added in 2016 by Southwest to Los Angeles and St. Louis, as well as capacity growth by JetBlue to Boston and by Delta to Atlanta and Detroit, have contributed to the increases, which translate to more passengers.

"We’re encouraged by this healthy trend of increasing seats, flights and passengers,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “Our market is growing based on the new service, and we’re excited about additional domestic and international routes that will be starting this spring and summer."

Delta Air Lines will resume nonstop service to Paris in May, along with Spirit Airlines starting new service to seven cities. Condor and Wow will begin new nonstop service to Frankfurt and Reykjavik in June.
