Pittsburgh Gains New International Service on Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines has announced that it will begin seasonal nonstop service to Cancun, Mexico, from Pittsburgh International Airport on June 9, 2018.
Cancun will be the 18th destination served by Southwest at Pittsburgh International. “This is Southwest’s first scheduled international route from Pittsburgh and an indication of their ongoing success in this region,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
Southwest, which began service from Pittsburgh in 2005, has expanded service to about 30 daily departures in slightly over a decade. The airline serves the most nonstop destinations of any carrier at Pittsburgh International and carries nearly 30 percent of all passengers. In August 2017, Southwest reached a monumental milestone in Pittsburgh by surpassing 20 million total passengers since launching service.
