Sea-Tac Welcomes New International Nonstop Service with Delta Air Lines' Inaugural Hong Kong Flight

Route is Delta’s 9th Intercontinental Service from Sea-Tac

(Seattle—June 16, 2014)

Another major world destination is one nonstop flight away from Seattle. Today the Port of Seattle joined Delta Air Lines to cut the ribbon on the newest international service from its Seattle-Tacoma International Airport hub – Hong Kong.

“In our efforts to be a world-class international airport, Hong Kong is a key connection for us and one we have sought for a long time,” said Courtney Gregoire, Port of Seattle Commission Co-President. “As one of the largest economic engines in our region, Sea-Tac Airport’s connection with Hong Kong means business for our region, jobs for our works and choices for the traveling public.”

Hong Kong is considered one of the top five corporate markets in Asia along with Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, and Seoul. Delta now flies nonstop to each of those destinations. Four additional airlines also provide nonstop service to three of those cities.

In 2013, Sea-Tac saw international passenger traffic increase by 10 percent over the previous year; in total, the airport served more than 34.7 million passengers. Through April of 2014, overall passenger traffic at Sea-Tac is up 4.2 percent over the same period in 2012, including a 6.2 percent increase in international passengers.

Delta will operate Seattle-Hong Kong service using a 234-seat Airbus 330-220 aircraft featuring 34 full flat-bed seats in Business Elite, 32 seats in Economy Comfort and 168 Economy class seats. Delta is the largest operator of intercontinental services at Sea-Tac, serving 10 flights daily. Overall, Delta offers nonstop service from Seattle to Paris, London and Amsterdam (twice daily in the summer) in Europe as well as Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo-Narita, Tokyo-Haneda, Seoul and Hong Kong in Asia. By August, Delta will operate more than 88 daily flights to 26 cities from Seattle.
