Port of Seattle Welcomes New Choices for the Region’s Travelers with Spirit Airlines to Begin Service to Sea-Tac Airport in 2016
The Port of Seattle welcomes a new airline to the roster at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as CEO Ted Fick unveiled a model plane with the colors of Spirit Airlines at a press conference today. The ultra low cost carrier is the newest entrant to Sea-Tac with flights scheduled to begin in March 2016.
Spirit Airlines is the ultra-low cost airline of the Americas and Home of the Bare Fare. Spirit will begin twice daily service to Los Angeles on March 24, 2016 followed by two daily flights to Las Vegas on April 14, 2016. Connections will be available to an additional 15 cities via Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
“It is a testament to the strengths of the Seattle market that a successful airline like Spirit made its decision to enter into Seattle and bring new ways of travel for our travelers, said Port of Seattle,” CEO Ted Fick. “I applaud the bold, new style of this airline, and it will be a unique addition to our airport.”
“Seattle is the perfect new city to expand our growing network,” said Mark Kopczak, Vice President of Network Planning for Spirit Airlines. “Spirit’s super low Bare Fares™, with Frill Control™ allows customers to choose only those extras they want to pay for and gives them the most control over their travel budget. By saving on travel, our customers have more money left over for when they get to their destination.”
Last year, Sea-Tac was the fastest growing airport in the country and this year growth is in the double digits. Year to date, passenger traffic is up 13.3 percent, that’s after 2014 which saw 7.7 percent growth over the previous year.
Spirit currently operates more than 250 daily flights to over 50 destinations within the U.S., Latin America, Caribbean and Canada.
