New easyJet route to Menorca takes off from London Southend Airport

Flights to Mahon, the capital of the sunshine island of Menorca, are now departing twice a week from London Southend Airport.

For passengers travelling through the airport on Friday 26 June there was Paella and Prosecco in the Departure Lounge to celebrate the first flight of latest new route from the ‘Best Airport in Britain’ (Which? magazine, 2013 & 2014)

This is the 14th route easyJet now operates from London Southend Airport – the airline is expecting to fly 500 passengers a week between the airport and the Balearic island. Tickets cost from just £30.99 one-way*

The inaugural flight to Mahon comes just 24-hours after the UK’s largest airline announced another new route from London Southend Airport to Lyon starting 12th December.

Neil Slaven, UK Commercial Manager at easyJet, said “We’re delighted to be adding Menorca to easyJet’s range of destinations from London Southend Airport. It’s really exciting to be here to see our first flight depart today and highlights our commitment to providing affordable routes to summer destinations from the airport but will also benefit inbound tourism to the town. Our Spanish routes are proving extremely popular for those who wish to get some easy and affordable summer sun, and we’re sure that our new route will be no exception.”

London Southend Airport Chief Commercial Officer Roger Clements said "We are absolutely delighted that easyJet is now offering another route from London Southend – with more to come this winter. With excellent access, our own station and car parks right next to the terminal, superb customer service - and now even more fantastic destinations - it's no surprise that more and more people are choosing simply easier Southend."

Family-friendly resorts, lush green mountains, secluded coves and undoubtedly some of Spain’s best beaches; if it’s rest and relaxation you’re after then Menorca is just the ticket.  It might not be as famous as its Balearic sisters Majorca and Ibiza, but actually has more beaches than the two of them put together.  If you like your sand fine, your waters crystal clear and warm and some beautiful deserted coves, bays and rocky inlets then Menorca is for you. The climate is typically Mediterranean, characterised by long hot summers and short mild winters with over 300 days of sunshine a year.

Capital Mahon sits on the east coast of the island and has a wealth of elegant 18th-century mansions among the churches and Gothic cathedral. Mahon loves its shopping and you’re be spoilt for choice in terms of restaurants, and bars. The harbour at 5 km long and over 1 km at its widest point (and 15-30m deep) is one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
